I needed a route that would test out the new bike – Wanda, the Koga WorldTraveller – and, having previously visited the mountains of northern Spain on a walking holiday in 2007, it seemed like a good destination for a two-wheeled shakedown. It was also a destination that could be reached without jumping on a plane so, in the final week of August 2019 (after a couple of days on the Isle of Wight) I caught the ferry from Plymouth to Santander and headed south in the direction of the Douro Valley of Portugal…
