Joel Stokoe discusses his experiences of cycling on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and Steve Cuthbertson recounts the story of his journey from Romania back to his home in southern England in aid of charity.
Spring 2020 will forever go down in the annals of history as the time of the Coronavirus. We don’t yet know how the story will end – this is history in the making – but we do know that the pandemic has had a significant impact upon the lives of most people. Schools closed, festivals cancelled, sporting events postponed, film premieres rescheduled… Yet with the majority of the population at home, what better time to pick up a book and start reading. And what better time to head off on a vicarious cycle across Europe. But fear not! This is not some shameless plug for my own books. (Although they are rather good…) It is about a new book that is being published on April 9th called A Time For Birds by Helen Moat.
One for the maps geeks. (Of which I am one…) You may wish to turn away if you have a dodgy internet connection as clicking on the links below is likely to test your patience in terms of download time, but I will persist. It is often a […]
Dear Andew My name is Attila Bartha, I’m 29 years old, and in spring 2020 I would like to go to around the world with my bicycle. Right now I’m in the preparation section. I got all my camping, clothing, survivor stuff, I manage the visas, the vaccination, […]
Regular readers of these posts will know that I quite often receive emails from people asking for information about cycling in Europe as occasionally I post my exchanges with such people on the website. In the case of Simon Ruddenklau, however, I didn’t. Perhaps it was a busy […]
A couple of European cycling-themed videos from Brut Nature FR, a French ‘new media’ company that seems to exist on social media but nowhere else. Anyway, I digress. Both are short and both worth watching; the first about the EuroVรฉlo 6, the second about how the bicycle has […]
“A bunch of young hipsters ride from Budapest to Istanbul…” That’s the first line uttered in the film and it tells you everything you need to know. I can only imagine that there gear is being carried by the camera crew. An interesting 30 minute watch as the […]
So, my early Spring travels continue next week with a visit to Slovakia for some hiking (althoughย more about that in a second). What do I know about Slovakia? Well, I know that physically it is a landlocked country with Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary […]
Matt Krog’s final post from the Eurovelo 6 from Nantes to Budapest. He made it & many congratulations to him for doing so. He will continue his journey to Rome and he will be continuing to blog at his website Matt’s Big Bicycle Tour. Thanks for creating some […]
Wednesday 22nd August Bratislava to Gyor: 4 hours, 82km “In the morning I went for a walk with Ivana and benji (their dog) through the nearby vineyards. It was a great walk through the country side and we picked grapes from the vines to munch along the way. […]
Friday 3rd August Sigmaringen to Munderkingen: 4 hours 2 minutes, 72km “It was my first day along the Danube. I had given myself two days to get to Ulm, so my target was any campsite past Riedlingen that I happened to come across. During the day nothing exciting […]
Time to catch up with a few of the cyclists who I have been following or I will be following over the coming weeks and months. There are quite a few… First of all my brother, Matthew, who is cycling with quite a few other supporters of Huddersfield […]
Laura Birchenoughย has just returned home from a cycle ride that took in the last part of the Eurovelo 5 – she stayed with Massimo Mazzone in Benevento – and then most of eastern / central Europe back to the UK. It seems to be the done thing to […]
Pan-European cycling might catch on a bit more if this volcanic cloud hangs around much longer. Mark Beaumont is stuck in the French Alps; I did suggest via Twitter that he cycle back (see feed to your left…), as did lots of other people by the sound of […]
According to the little vote countdown over there on the right, it is now 365 days until I set off at 9am on Monday 19th July 2010. Actually, it isn’t as it is still Saturday 18th July 2009. But anyway, P-365 is looming and is now within hours…I […]
