I don’t often use LinkedIn (mainly because I don’t really understand it, which is a lame excuse but there you go…), however I do receieve notifications via email from time to time and one arrived a couple of days ago that caught my eye. Why? Well, something in the pictures seemed familiar… The notification came in the form of an invite to follow an organisations called Cyclo Camp. A French outfit based in La Rochelle. Initially I thought they were a campsite themselves but no, they weren’t. I clicked through to their website and started reading…
Here’s the link to the website so you can have a look yourself. You’ll need to have a basic grasp of French or, if you don’t, be content to let the pictures do the talking. The company describe what they do as follows: “Créateur de lieux d’étape pour voyageur a vélo, CYCLO CAMP propose aux collectivités locales et professionnels du tourisme des modules éco-conçus afin d’aménager des espaces accueillants et adaptés aux besoins des cyclotouristes.” For you non-francophones, here’s the translation: “Creator of stopover places for bicycle travellers, CYCLO CAMP offers local authorities and tourism professionals eco-designed modules in order to develop welcoming spaces adapted to the needs of cyclists.” And the reason why they seemed familiar is that I am sure I saw some of them during the summer along the Vélo Francette in northern France. Specifically, I’m sure they have one of the sleeping cabins at Domfront municipal campsite.
Here’s an all-singing and dancing unit that they have installed (image from their website):

The unit I saw at Domfront was an accommodation one (although on further investigation, it does seems to be manufactured by another company who they work with). Irrespective, it’s a cracking idea. Here’s a video:
Let’s hope they catch on. You saw it here first!

Thank you for your article! It’s great to see that you enjoyed our concept 😊
CycloCamp.fr is indeed complementary to HelloCabanes.com, which you found at Camping des Domfont!
Together, we create stopover sites dedicated to cycle tourists, with a communal kitchen, secure bike storage, maintenance stations, electronic charging points, bike washing facilities, a social area, and cabins for a quiet and warm night’s sleep.
Célian, founder of CycloCamp
Thanks Célian. And thanks for confirming it was indeed Domfront. Good luck with the venture and happy cycling 🙂
I prefer wild camping and I know the rules. My pension is low so there is not much money to make from me. I cook my own food. I speak english, french, german and spanish and offcourse my northern languge. in summer I prefer the Baltic sea and the Mediterranian sea in winter.I like to have time to play the guitar and paint. I am not very social but I need to to speak to learn.
I prefer to contribute to the local economy…
