Santander To Coimbra 2019: The Movie

If you follow @CyclingEurope on Twitter, you may have noticed that over the past couple of weeks, short videos have been posted recounting the story of my cycle from Santander in Spain to Coimbra in Portugal last summer. The reason for the appearances of the videos is two-fold. Firstly because they will be used in the talk that I am delivering at this year’s Cycle Touring Festival in May. Secondly, I wanted to make a re-edited video about the trip rather than simply cobbling together the videos that I made at the time. Hopefully you like the result. Lights? Camera? Action!

“Cycling Europe berths in Santander, Spain for two weeks of adventure across the Iberian Peninsula via Potes, Riaรฑo, Leรณn, Puebla de Sanabria, Braganรงa and Porto to Coimbra in Portugal. Join Andrew P. Sykes as he discovers the cycle path less travelled up and over the remote mountains of the Picos de Europa, into Portugalโ€™s spectacular Douro Valley and onwards to the Atlantic Ocean, aided and abetted by his faithful companion Wanda, the Koga WorldTraveller bicycle.”

More details about the trip to Spain and Portugal can be found on this page of CyclingEurope.org. Listen to the podcast of the trip on iTunes by following this link. To listen via other podcast providers, visit The Cycling Europe Podcast homepage and search for Episode 011.

  1. Nice film!
I once did a four-and-a-half month bicycle tour around Spain and Portugal, but that was back in the winter of 1962/63, and I didn’t film it.

  2. Like Brenda I will try and resist until the CTF although I’ve watched a little bit already and will probably be tempted.

What do you think?
