For purposes of comparison, here’s an article I wrote prior to the Mediterranean trip in 2013. Quite a bit of kit has survived to travel with me and Reggie (the bike) once again in 2015…img_0469-copy

  1. Hello Andrew,
Enjoyed reading yr Le Grand Tour story in Cycle. Stories like yours are inspiring

You completed that adventure in 54 days I notice.
I was supposed to be going on my first big cycling trip from St.Austell in Cornwall to Porto Cheli in mainland Greece. A distance of 2300 miles ( 3700km ). I had estimated about 35 to 40 days to get to my friend’s place, cycling about 60 miles per day. When there I was going to plant approx 200 trees in his new garden, plus carry out landscaping work to help me finance the whole trip, adding another 4 to 8 weeks before returning by a similar route, via ferry across to southern Italy, across Switzerland, then up through France to one of the ferry ports & finally back home into the UK.

However, I’m pretty sure that the European Schengen agreement would mean only being allowed 90 days freedom to travel without any visa’s/restrictions etc, in any 6 month period.

Have I got this correctly ?

Also I would like to buy a handle-bar map case, as depicted in the photos on your Koga bike, set up for Le Grand Tour.
Am I correct to assume it’s your Topeak tablet holder which you’ve listed in your brilliant ( & helpful ) numbered kit list ?

    • To tell you the truth I don’t know! I’m guessing about 15kg? Have a look on the Ridgeback website for the specification for a Ridgeback Panorama World. Hope that helps. Cheers, Andrew

  2. Hi Andrew.
Was this gorilla stand ok for your trips? Wouldn’t you prefer the larger one?
