Cycling America’s Western States

By Ryan McDonald

Though there is no shortage of exciting cycling locations here in Europe, America offers some of the finest, scenic cycling routes in the world. In this article, we will be focusing in particular on some of the best cycling adventures that can be enjoyed in the US Western States. We’ll also discuss steps for planning your trip and arranging accommodation, while also highlighting some of the other leisure distractions available to you while you’re in that part of the world.

Making plans

Depending on the kind of person you are, you’ll either want to have everything from hotels, to food, to transport arranged before you set off, or you’ll be happy to simply set foot on American soil, grab your bike and go.

If you fall into the former category then you’ll want to spend a little time on platforms like Google Maps to plot the routes. The Adventure Cycling Route Network, meanwhile, will help you discover an exciting selection of passages across the country.

You will also need to consider accommodation. You may be keen to relax in the luxury of five-star accommodation on every step of your route; alternatively, you may be content to stay somewhere a little more humble and save money along the way. If there’s enough of you, you may even opt for larger shared accommodation.

Transport or hire

Another decision you’ll need to make is whether you’ll take your own bike with you overseas or rent a model when you land. There is some useful guidance available here around the steps you’ll need to take and the expense you’ll incur taking your own bicycle with you.

If you’d prefer to travel light then there are plenty of fantastic options for leasing a bike when you land, with packages available allowing you to make use of a new model for a day, a week, a month or even longer. You may consider checking out what’s available close to your route before you make a decision.

You may also find it useful to rent a car while you’re overseas, or at least make plans to catch the train at occasional intervals. Although the prospect of a non-stop cycling holiday in America seems tantalising, your legs will thank you for the recovery time.

Other distractions

On that same note, it’s important to consider the other attractions you’ll take in while you’re in America. For many, the trip across the Atlantic is truly once in a lifetime, so be sure to take the time to do as much as you can while you’re State-side.

Of course, one of the jewels of the Western States in America is Las Vegas, Nevada. Famed for its world-class casinos, Vegas provides the perfect opportunity to unwind for a night or two as part of an otherwise gruelling holiday.

You may even consider preparing for your Vegas cycling trip with a virtual casino night at home, perhaps with your travel companions. The games available online provide the perfect warm-up for the slots and tables of Vegas and, with no-deposit bonuses for many providers, you don’t have to make huge deposits to enjoy the fun. Here is an excellent article to LeoVegas Casino Bonus that provides the opportunity to enjoy some of the latest games.

This can help whet the appetite ahead of your casino-themed trip while helping some of your less experienced travel companions prepare for their night in Vegas.
