There really is a cycle route for everyone in the Lake District! Routes like The Lakes & Dales Loop cover some of the most beautiful parts of the landscape and as threatening as a 196-mile circular loop sounds, itโs easily broken down into bite-sized chunks which can be sandwiched with stunning overnight stays at some of the Lake Districtโs finest hotels.
For every easy family-friendly ride there are some real tear-jerkers, with some inclines reaching 33% and elevations up to 426m! There are road sections of the Lake District reserved for only the hardiest cyclists. Honister Pass, home to the Tour of Britain in years past, and The Struggle have really set the gauntlet for road cyclists.
For their off-road cousins, the MTB trails of Whinlatter bring their own challenges. Moderate to difficult level routes run from Cyclewise, a well-provisioned mountain bike centre. Experienced cyclists can attack the Altura trail, with tough single-track sections, jumps, table tops and other exciting features for those seeking that rush of adrenaline.
