Cycling from Tarifa to Nordkapp may, in retrospect, appear to have been a relatively simply jaunt compared the the trip that I am about to embark upon when I arrive in Bergen. I’ve just spent a not inconsiderable amount of time on the Internet and this is the plan* (*subject to potentially many changes!) that will get me and Reggie from Bergen in Norway to Blackley in West Yorkshire:
Monday 3rd August
- 14:30 – Arrive in Bergen (on the MS Lofoten)
- Stay overnight in Bergen (camping? hostel?)
Tuesday 4th August
- 13:30 – Fjordline ferry to Hirtshals, Denmark
- Stay overnight on the ferry
Wednesday 5th August
- 7:30 – Arrive Hirtshals
- 9.36 – Train to Hjoerring
- 11.06 – Train to Aalborg
- 12.01 – Train to Fredericia
- 15.45 – Bus to Flensburg
- 18.11 – Train to Hamburg
- Stay overnight in Hamburg
Thursday 6th August
- 9.46 – Train to Amsterdam (change at Osnabruck)
- 15.00 – Arrive Ansterdam
- Stay overnight in Amsterdam
Friday 7th August
- Cycle to Rotterdam (73 km)
- 21.00 – P&O ferry to Hull, UK
- Stay overnight on the ferry
Saturday 8th August
- Trans-Pennine Express to Huddersfield
- Cycle Huddersfield to Blackley
Easy, no?
The biggest concern is not the timings or the accommodation but whether the trains (and bus) will carry the bike. Extra sections of ‘cycling’ may be required…

Wasn’t there mention of a pub at some Yorkshire point of a earlier plan?
Yes, I haven’t forgotten… ๐
Yep I guess so. Especially if there is no rush to get home and no deadline either. You could’ve cycled back down to Holland. It’s a mere hop from NordKapp!
What a nightmare to get back! Can’t be cheap either Andrew.
You say ‘nightmare’ Steve; I say ‘fun’ and ‘interesting’… ๐ If I wanted ‘cheap’ (‘quick’ and ‘boring’) I could no doubt find a flight…
