The Start Of Part II: Hamburg To Denmark

I’m going to be following (hopefully) an ox herding route (now an official cycle path) called the Ochsenweg up through the northern German region of Schleswig-Holstein towards Flensburg, the final town in Germany. The vague route is highlighted in green on the map below but I’m hoping that the signposts are just as good as the HH-HB route was last week from Bremen to Hamburg. Having never previously travelled north of Hamburg, all that now follows – that’s all the way to Nordkapp – is new… A combination of paper maps (I’ve just picked up the final bundle that I posted to my friends in Hamburg earlier in the year), Komoot offline maps (great detail and essential when the mobile signal fails as inevitably it will the further north I travel), Google Maps for urban direction finding and Open Street Map for comprehensive coverage of cycling routes, I’m hoping not to get lost too often… Estimated date of arrival in Nordkapp? The end of July. Ish…

  1. I will be following your trip through northern Germany and Denmark very closely as I plan on riding that route myself in August.
    Safe travels
