Avoiding Knee Pain When Cycling

Paying Attention to Knee Health as a Cyclist

There are various aspects of knee health that cyclists need to pay close attention to. Something as simple as wearing the right equipment when cycling could significantly affect your knees. Some cyclists also neglect pre and post-cycling routines, which could promote healthy or unhealthy knees. That being said, here are some basic approaches to avoiding knee pain as a cyclist.

Wearing the Right Gear

There is no overstating the benefits of orthoses for athletes. Wearing the right knee guard can significantly support your knees, reducing strain. The same could be said for insoles. Placing your foot at the right angle also reduces the strain on your knee, and insoles help with this. Choosing the right gear for cycling promotes knee health and is a necessary preparation step.

Develop a Warm Up and Cool Down Routine

Diving right into an intense riding session benefits no one. Your knees need time to adjust to such a heavy load, and you can do this by taking a few minutes to warm up before. Conversely, it pays to cool down after a long ride, helping your muscles relax and recover.

Learn to Pedal Properly

Anyone can learn to ride a bike, but you must be intentional about learning to ride one properly. A bad pedaling technique could significantly stress your knees and cause pain over time.

Conclusion

Knee issues could easily develop into mobility problems if not handled tactfully. Do not neglect your body’s warning signals; take the necessary steps to cycle safely and protect your knees. Follow all the necessary precautions and seek extra support if you need it. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
