I don’t often get political on here but here’s something to think about.
Turnout: 34.19% in the UK
Percentage of votes for UKIP: 27.50%
Percentage of the population voting UKIP: 9.40%
Percentage of the population NOT voting UKIP: 90.60%
So fewer than 1 in 10 people voted for Nigel Farage and the closet racists, sexists and homophobes in his party. The headlines scream that UKIP has achieved a ‘historic win’. The Daily Express is rejoicing that the ‘Earthquake takes Britain closer to exit [of the EU]’.
Who is to blame for this travesty of democracy? Farage? His party? His voters? The press? Of course not. It’s the 65.81% of you who couldn’t be bothered to vote in the first place. There were 31 parties standing in the elections in Britain. You didn’t think that any of them came close to representing your views? Really? Did you bother to look? Was it because ‘politicians are all the same’? Have you ever met one? Spoken to one? Or are you basing your judgement upon the few who make the headlines for their wrongdoings? Apathy is a dangerous thing… But it looks as though more than 6 out of 10 people don’t care.
