I mentioned below about having bought the Cateye Micro Wireless bike computer and today I was able to set a benchmark figure for my daily commute from Reading to Henley. I set the starting point as the brow of Reading Bridge (as I always pass this point but don’t always follow the same route prior to this point) and the finishing point as the entrance to my school. A couple of caveats: today was good weather, only a light breeze and I didn’t have the panniers attached so it is a challenging benchmark to meet. The distance between Reading Bridge and work is almost exactly 10 kms (9.85 kms). The profile includes some moderate climbs on the way to work through Caversham and then the final stretch as I approach the school itself and on the way back a shorter but steeper section through Henley Golf Club. I paused the clock if I had to wait in traffic or at lights. So, here are the times to beat: Reading to Henley – 24 minutes 58 seconds Henley to Reading – 23 minutes 35 seconds I’ll keep measuring the times through the weeks and months to come and keep them posted on the blog over on the right.
