My thumb shows my position on the map – about half way along the full length of the Pennine Cycleway route. Arrived in Ingleton at 4pm. Despite the spectacular short cut from Appleby to Tebay over the moors which knocked about 8 miles off today’s planned 44 from Appleby to Ingleton, if I add on the 3 miles from Dufton to Appleby and then the 2 miles when I got lost just after Sedbergh, we are talking well over 40 miles for the day. First impressions of Ingleton are mixed: not as pretty as other places en route – Dent was a little gem for example – and this pub is not great. In addition I have already been told off by the vicar’s minder (he was escorting her across the street) for riding down a one-way street in the wrong direction. Welcome to Yorkshire!
