Today I bought a map of Japan and this evening I have stuck it to the wall of the spare bedroom. I did this prior to the three cycles across Europe and, each time, I achieved my objective. Let’s hope the strategy works for a 4th time…
I also bought two books to read. I’d better get page turning…

I’ve just finished the Spain to Norway book and really enjoyed it. Will look forward to this one! When is the trip planned for? You probably already know about the shimanami kaido but, if not, it’s worth investigating! https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3478.html
Hi. (Is this David?) Thanks for the feedback about the book – delighted you enjoyed the read ๐
My plan is to cycle during June/July/August of 2020, visiting Tokyo at the time of the Olympics. I’ve seen pictures of the Shimanami Kaido before but thanks for naming it and reminding me that it exists. Much appreciated.
No, THIS is David! But thanks and I concur about the Shimanami Kaido!
the anticipation is part of the joy of cycle touring
I couldn’t agree more. Indeed for me it is a three-pronged fork of pleasure; anticipation (before), execution (during), writing (after). All three stages are equally enjoyable.
agree Andrew but it don’t do too much preplanning. I do read up about places but have a very open idea before setting off. Are you doing any short tours?
I don’t think anyone would accuse me of of over-planning… ๐
