Sunday Cycling In The Calder Valley

CalderdaleThis is once again my home territory and I have to say that on a day like today, with no wind to speak of and hazy sunshine, it compares very favourably indeed to anything that the continent can offer. My route took me from Blackley (the Yorkshire one) to Outlane, Pole Moor and Nont Sarah’s following the line of the M62 in the near distance before crossing back over the motorway and down through Rishworh, Ripponden, Sowerby Bridge, Luddenden Foot then arriving in Hebden Bridge where I booked Reggie in for a service at Blazing Saddles. The return journey was a little simpler following the Rochdale canal back to West Vale and Elland… The map shown below was part of a tiled fresco outside the Hebden Bridge tourist office where I chatted at length with a very helpful chap about cycling, the Calder Valley Greenway, Berkshire, creative writing and literary festivals in the area. I’m lucky to live here (again).
