A couple of publications have come my way in the last few days. The first is a cycling touring guide for the French portion of the Eurovelo 8 route in the south of France. The guide’s author, cyclist & teacher (sounds familiar) Daniel Jamrozik emailed me about its existence and I will try to pick up a copy when I’m in France in a couple of week’s time on a school trip. Interestingly, it looks as though it assumes an east to west route ‘La route du Sud à vélo de Menton à Béziers‘ (although the guy on the cover must surely be cycling from west to east if you think about it…). Here is the Amazon (France) link if you are interested in finding it online. Daniel lives near the town of Draguignan in the south of France which is handily on my route. If he is not himself cycling in far off places, it would be interesting to meet him for a chat, croissant, coffee etc…

The second publication is more prosaic in nature but potentially equally as useful. The European Cycling Lexicon published by the ECF / European Union is described as “An illustrated passport-sized booklet, containing key terms for cycling, different types of bikes for different mobility needs, and good cycling infrastructure in 27 languages, including all 23 official EU languages.” It’s a pity for me that Albanian isn’t one of them but I’m sure I’ll manage as I make my way along the Mediterranean coastline from Greece to Portugal. It seems to be out of print but a pdf version of the document is available from either the European Parliament Bookshop or by following this link. I hope your printer is full of ink!
