The following people have been in contact and expressed interest and support in my plans to cycle the Eurovelo 8. Some are also planning to cycle some or all of the route themselves.
Rachel Golden – an American who is planning to cycle the whole of the Eurovelo 8 in 2012.
Anthony Dennis – is cycling to Spain from the UK in summer 2012 and will be following the Eurovelo 8 route in Spain itself.
Charles Hedden – is planning to cycle from Lisbon to Split in Croatia in summer 2011.
Manuel Gunzburger – is cycling from Monaco to Croatia & is looking for help with the route. Contact him!
Owen Riddall – from Buckinghamshire in the UK is planning to cycle the Spanish part of the route in summer 2012.
Mark Stewart – cycling in summer 2010 from somewhere east of Madrid on the Spanish east coast, through France, into Italy and then hooking up with the Eurovelo 5 and going to Bern, Switzerland. (“Or something like that” as he says….)

A friend and I are likely to start out from Madrid (heading to the coast to get onto Eurovelo 8) about the middle of July, then through the south French part of the 8. If we all can give our various starting points and times perhaps we can figure out if we can coordinate anything.
I’ve done a fair amount of bicycle touring in the US, Canada, and Europe.
Also, if anyone has found a good map of the route and can tell us where to get that, that would be very helpful.
Thanks! and I hope to meet some of you,
Mark
Hi Guys
A friend and I (niether whom have cycled more than to the shops or around town before) have decided to do part of the eurovelo 8 this summer 2012. We are going to fly into Girona, Northern Spain and cycle to Monaco along the french leg of euro 8.
It would be great if someone more experienced than us could give us tips on where to stay etc. I can be contacted at jonathan@irishliquidations.ie
Any help greatly appreciated.
Good news. Greece is having a coordination centre for Eurovelo! Very soon EV8, EV11 and EV13 will have more details about geographic information for starting and stop points, route infrastructure and more in the EuroVelo Overview Route Database, http://www.eurovelo.org/routes/overview-route-database/.
Thanks for pointing me the direction of this interactive map Georgios; it looks very promising… I aim to set off from Athens on Monday 1st July 2013 so look out for me!
Andrew
Andrew, Thanks for your response. I hope to do part of it this coming summer; from somewhere east of Madrid on the Spanish east coast, through France, into Italy and then hooking up to the 5 and going to Bern, Switzerland. Or something like that.
But if there isn’t a good map, how does one find out the routes to take for the 8?
Mark
I think you’ll have to make it up as you go along – like I did with the Eurovelo 5 last summer – although the routes do tend to use already exisiting cycle routes (regional and national ones) where they exist. Look forward to finding out how you get on!
I’ll add you to the list above.
Cheers
Andrew
Is there anywhere a good map of Eurovelo 8? I am assuming that the map in the booklet that has all the Eurovelo routes to have insufficient detail to be really useful.
If there is a good map, can someone provide a link to it?
Thanks,
Mark
Hi Mark
As far as I know, a detailed map doesn’t exist. If you do manage to find one, please let me know! When are you planning to cycle the route? And is it your intention to do the whole thing?
Cheers
Andrew
Thanks Andrew for your email, actually I have 2 moths and half to enjoy my bike, I’ll see what happen!? If there will be some time left I could reach Morocco. In the meanwhile today I’ve finished my first training week, 350 km total, so I Keep going on to reach 500 k a week by the end of the year, to face this wonderful challenge!
I will leave from Verona to Tarifa on 7th january 2012, any of you can tell me where I can find the detailed maps of eurovelo 8? thanks
Hi Cri
You may find the document available from the ECF useful… but I have just noticed that they have redesigned their website and can’t find it! I’ll email you a copy of the document after I’ve posted this message. When are you planning on completeing your cycle?
Andrew
Pingback: Monaco To Croatia Along The EV8 | One Man, One Bike
Here we go!
I decided, a few days ago, to take my bike with a good friend, and to go to Croatia, maybe Dubrovnik, starting from Monaco. The only problem we’ve encountered, and not the least, is that we can’t find recent “logbook” about the trip. Let me explain: we would like to know, before leaving Monaco, which steps, legs, we will do. We would like to plan, for each day, where we will start, where we will stop, how many km will we have to do. Actually, we would like to find exact maps of the route, and maybe some informations (where to sleep…) about each place. Could you help us?
Thank you for your help .)
I will tr to do a section of euro velo 8 from barcelona to venice in august 2011
