Good Vibrations: “Wonderful Adventure” 5*

“Just finished [Good Vibrations]… and thoroughly enjoyed it. It brought lots of memories of my experience of cycling touring even though mine was no where near as ambitious… Many of the cycle touring books I have read have been about people selling up and hitting the road for years on an end. It was nice to read one from somebody trying to fit in a longer tour around their normal life and the challenges that provided.
Thanks for a brilliant read…”

Good Vibrations: “I’d give it more stars if I could…” 5*

Another 5* rating on Amazon for Good Vibrations: Crossing Europe on a Bike Called Reggie;

“I’m sure I heard Andrew on The Bike Show podcast giving a rough outline of his trip. It was such a good podcast I noted the title down & bought the book on the strength of the interview. Was not disappointed in the slightest; great read from start to finish. You feel like your on the journey with him (Reggie too..!!!). He met some great people on his way, made friends & Reggie sounds like a true star in the making. Some of the campsites almost sound like they came from a Carry On film! The drivers with a tendency to hit the horns will make you smile; if you’ve ever been to Italy you’ll know all about it. All in all a real easy read on cycle travel. Even if a cycling book may not be your thing it’s such an entertaining read its worth it. I’d give it more stars if I could..”

Good Vibrations: “Inspiring!” / “An Entertaining Read”

A couple more top-rated reviews on Amazon this afternoon for Good Vibrations: Crossing Europe on a Bike Called Reggie;

This entertaining, informative book inspired me to get out on my bike and ride, ride, ride!!! Read this if you love cycling, you will not be disappointed!

Paul Lewis, Amazon.co.uk review

This is an entertaining reflection on an interesting adventure. It was nice to take the journey with someone who was learning all the way about places, people and himself. It’s going to more relevant to those who understand the joys and perils of cycling but will be enjoyed by people interested in travel and the people we meet on the way.

“This is a must read for anyone who [rides] a bike. I found it to be very inspiring, it makes you want to get out and ride your bike (no matter what the weather conditions). The places and people visited in the book are described in such detail you almost feel like you are there cycling along too… Recommend it to everyone.”

“Best Cycling Book I’ve Read To Date” *****

I do hope C. J. Boarland has read more than just the one cycling book;

“Best cycling book I’ve read to date. Having decided to embark on my own mid-life cycling adventure this year I was looking for a book written for the ordinary guy who aspires to achieve something special. There are plenty of technical, expert accounts around for the super fit and cycling anoraks, but that’s not what I wanted. I came across Good Vibrations: Crossing Europe on a Bike Called Reggie purely through a Kindle search and more by luck than judgement or recommendation, I found exactly the book I was looking for. Andrew Sykes’s style is both informative and amusing – he had me laughing and nodding in agreement on many occasions. I am planning to cycle from Roscoff to Monaco in August 2012 as a way of celebrating my retirement year (early fifties)… Good Vibrations exactly reflects my outlook on such an endeavour – solo, minimal reliance on and contact with others and an intent, come what may, to achieve his goal…”

Good Vibrations: “Very Enjoyable Read” 5*

“First time I have downloaded an eBook. Very enjoyable read. eBook does not have photos, but they can be found through the book’s website [and Facebook page]. Invaluable route planner for anyone wanting to cycle this route…”

“A Great Read Which Will Inspire Any Cyclist!” *****

Another 5* rating for Good Vibrations: Crossing Europe on a Bike Called Reggie:

“This book would tempt any cyclist (and non cyclist!) who has not been away on a tour to pack up the bike and pedal off. Andrew Sykes sums up the beauty and freedom of having two wheels and a tent! He manages to capture the spirit of adventure that the food tastes better, the beer tastes better, the views and scenery are better – all because he is travelling under his own power and at a slower pace. The author manages to capture the chance encounters with people he meets on the way. A great easy read which will inspire any cyclist! Only negative is one of envy – I want to do a trip like that!”

GVCEBCR: 5* “A Great Read”

“I read this book as I want to ride Lands End to John O’Groats so I’m reading anything I can on long distance cycle rides. This is a great book…one of those that make you tired because you end up reading late into the night! I was also delighted to read that Reggie is the same bike as mine!! My only negative? It’s made me realise that my LEJOG trip is a walk in the park by comparison and has left me very envious of the author’s amazing adventure!! Look forward to hearing about his future adventures.”

GVCEBCR: 5* “I Thoroughly Enjoyed The Book Cover To Cover”

“I sat down one winter evening and bought this book after hearing good things and reading other reviews about this cycling trip. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the book cover to cover (or as best as you can with a Kindle). As much as I applaud the efforts of others to raise funds for good causes by carrying out endurance events…, I was glad to read this trip was a planned holiday of the extreme type, by a school languages teacher with a passion for cycling on his summer leave and basically going with the flow across Europe. Andrew Sykes tells an enjoyable account of this road trip complete with colourful characters met along the way and little bits of historic snippets of information… Reggie did his bit throughout this journey in reliable fashion; a tribute to Ridgeback Cycles.”

GVCEBCR: 5* “Great Entertaining Read”

“I enjoyed Good Vibrations, a nice easy read, well written and witty account of an epic journey. An unassuming account written as seen. Observations I could associate with, and shows what a great experience can be had travelling through the different cultures of Europe. The book gave me confidence to think about tackling a similar adventure… Recommended inspirational read.”
